Advertising is a marketing tool that lets you communicate with potential customers about your products or services through paid channels. The goal of advertising for businesses is to build brand awareness, improve image, boost engagement, generate leads or convert potential leads into sales.

Advertising is a very old form of promotion with roots that go back even to ancient times. In recent decades, the practices of advertising have changed enormously as new technology and media allowed consumers to bypass traditional advertising means.


PURPOSE OF ADVERTISING

Advertising has three major objectives: to inform, to persuade and to remind-


1. Informative Advertising: It creates awareness of brands, products, services and ideas. It announces new products, programs and educate people about the attributes and benefits of new or established product


2. Persuasive Advertising: It tries to convince customers that a company's services or products are the best, and it works to alter perceptions and enhance the image of a company's product. It's goal is to influence customers to take action and switch brand, try a new product or remain loyal to a current brand


3. Reminder Advertising: It reminds people about the need for a product or service, the features and benefits it will provide them when they are purchased promptly.



TYPES OF ADVERTISING


1. Digital Advertising: It is a great way to introduce new people to your products or services. 

It comprises of a wide range of advertising methods from social media, copy writing etc.

  • Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising: PPC refers to advertising on internet search engines or other websites.

  • Email Advertising: For customers who opt in, your emails can be a powerful way to get them to keep your business in their mindset as they are getting offers on new products or promotions.

  • Print Advertising includes business cards, newspapers, magazines, banners and flyers which are used to promote one's business, gain potential customers and wider network reach.


ADVERTISING STRATEGY

Advertising Strategy refers to the plan or action that a business or organization puts in place to promote it's products or services to it's target audience.


1. Branding: A branding strategy is a plan for creating and promoting a unique brand identity for a product, service or company. It involves defining the brand's core values, target audience, brand voice, visual identity and messaging.


2. Direct Response: Direct response advertising aims to elicit an immediate response or action from the viewer or reader, such as making a purchase, requesting for more information, or subscribing to a service. This type of advertising includes a clear call-to-action (CTA) that encourage the audience to take a specific action.


3. Content Marketing: It's a strategic approach that focuses on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience and drive profitable customer action.


4. Social Media Marketing: Is the process of promoting a brand, product or service through social media platforms. It involves creating and sharing content on social media network like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube etc. to engage with target audience and drive traffic.


5. Influencer Marketing: It's a type of marketing that involves collaborating with influential individuals or content creators to promote a brand or product. It's a popular and effective way for brands to reach specific audience, build awareness and generate leads or sales.


Example of a brand that makes use of influencer marketing is Coca-Cola, they invest across several niche such as football, comedy, movie, music etc.
